French bank BNP Paribas said on Monday it had agreed with investment firm Tiberius
Group to develop actively managed commodity structured products. "We aim to provide
expert advice, from a leading player in the field, on choosing the winners for investors
looking at liquid and transparent exposure," Lionel Semonin, head of Commodity Investor
Derivatives at BNP Paribas, said in a statement. The products aim to generate high
returns across all commodities by selecting those commodities or sub-sectors which
are most likely to outperform, the statement said.

Soft commodities will likely outperform other commodity asset classes over the next
five years, in large part due to their ties to energy, a senior sugar trader said
on Tuesday. Jonathan Boyden, head of sugar trading at Ambrian Capital, said soft
commodity prices had risen by 29 per cent in the past five years -- less impressive
than base metals (up 454 per cent), precious metals (up 168 per cent), and grains
(up 116 per cent). But soft futures -- sugar, coffee and cocoa -- have soared by
more than 20 percent since the start of 2008, powered by investment funds and speculators
which are seeking big returns in agricultural commodities.

Barclays Capital has launched a new commodity index that will exploit the growth

in “differing market cycles including stagnant or falling markets utilizing a long-short

"Point Carbon predicts that the global carbon market will see 4.2 billion tons carbon
emissions (CO2e) transacted during 2008, up 56 percent from last year. At today’s
